
Learn to play the piano with ease during our Rising with Purpose season! This season, we will explore student’s artistic piano playing abilities, piano theory, keyboard skills, and piano fundamentals. Ages 7 – 19.
What are the goals of the Mini Maestro Piano Program?
Program Goals
- Advance Musical Proficiency – Strengthen students’ intermediate technique, theory, and artistry to move toward advanced skill levels.
- Foster Personal Growth & Discipline – Increase consistency in practice, responsibility for learning, and resilience when challenged.
- Encourage Artistic Expression – Provide opportunities for creativity through student-selected recital pieces and interpretation.
- Prepare for Performance Excellence – Set clear standards for recital readiness and community event participation.
- Build Lifelong Musicianship – Develop habits of excellence and passion for piano study that extend into future years.
What will Mini Maestro Piano do for youth?
Youth who participate in UNITY’s Mini Maestro Piano Program will:
- Be asked to establish a consistent 3 to 5 day a week practice routine.
- Improve hand coordination, posture, fingering accuracy
- Strengthen ability to quickly interpret new pieces and identify intervals/chords by ear.
- Improve in sight-reading speed and accuracy; 20% growth in ear recognition exercises.
- Demonstrate understanding of key signatures, rhythm patterns, and chord progressions.
- Increase understanding of music theory
- Select and polish one recital piece for the Spring Recital.
- Show improvement in tackling difficult passages and practicing repetitions.
- Actively seek and apply instructor and peer feedback.
- Show improvement in self-correction and demonstrated adjustments after feedback.
When and where will the UNITY Mini Maestro Piano classes be offered?
All classes take place at the UNITY Program & Training Center (PTC on the Ivy Tech Campus)
(Class placement due to age & experience is flexible)
Private Piano – Mondays between 3:30 PM and 9:00 PM. 30 Minute Lessons
Group Piano – Older, Experienced Players, up to age 19, will meet Thursdays 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM
Younger, Newer Players, ages 7 and up, will meet Thursdays from 6:30 to 7:30 PM
Spring Showcase Recital
The Spring Showcase Recital for all students is May 19, 2026 at the Purdue Music Center.
