Oratory Program

What is the Oratory Program?
The UNITY Youth Oratory Program offers youth ages 11 and older the opportunity to train and develop both their technical and artistic public speaking abilities through various disciplines including expressive speeches and creative storytelling.

What are the goals of the Oratory Program?
● Increase and improve face-to-face communication skills in youth through public speaking

● Increase the likelihood of positive life outcomes for youth by countering risk factors and Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) through protective factors

● Increase youth engagement in performing arts and culture programs, which is shown by research to positively affect academic performance and achievement in school

What will the Oratory Program do for youth?
● Youth will be exposed to positive peers and adults in a safe environment that empowers students to strive for excellence and practice our organizational principles of respect, discipline, confidence, and value for education

● Youth will have more confidence in their face-to-face interaction and communication abilities, which they can utilize in school, church, and professional environments including workplaces

● Youth will have the opportunity to perform original or inspired oratorical pieces at a showcase at the end of the course

When and where will the UNITY Youth Oratory Program classes be offered?
The classes will be held weekly beginning February 2024 and ending in May 2024. The UNITY
Oratory Program will be held in the UNITY Program & Training Center (PTC). Classes will be held in the Computer & Technology Training Lab, which features 32 computer stations that are equipped with Mac or Windows operating systems as well as digital audio recording, digital graphic design, video editing, and multimedia software.
